Classify the payment first. Area payments, operating subsidies and investment grants are treated differently. The grant decision usually says what the money is for, and that purpose drives the tax treatment.
Czech investment grants reduce the asset’s tax cost. Czech income tax law generally reduces the tax input price of an asset by the subsidy received for acquiring it. The grant is then reflected in lower tax depreciation rather than as income in the year received.
In Slovakia, start from the accounts. The Slovak tax base starts from the accounting result. The research has to confirm how the accounts recognise each subsidy over time and whether any adjustment applies for tax.
Repayment and VAT are separate questions. If grant conditions are breached and money is repaid, the year and manner of the tax correction need their own answer. For VAT, only subsidies directly linked to the price of a supply form part of the taxable amount.

Subsidies received in 2026: income tax treatment

Area payments. Both companies received direct payments per hectare. These are operating subsidies, not linked to a specific asset, and are included in taxable income for the period to which they relate. The relevant decisions are listed in the annex.

Grain dryer grant, Czech cooperative. The grant was awarded for acquiring the dryer. We treat it as reducing the tax input price of the dryer, so it is not taxed as income this year and tax depreciation is calculated on the reduced price.

Agri-environment payment. The payment covers commitments over five years. We have reviewed when it is recognised in the accounts and for tax, and how a partial repayment would be treated if a commitment is not met.

The situation

The subsidies a farm received in the year, uploaded as decisions and statements

An agricultural cooperative near Znojmo farms 2,800 hectares and owns a subsidiary near Senica, across the Slovak border. This year the two received area payments, a rural development grant towards a EUR 600,000 grain dryer and a multi-year agri-environment payment.

The advisor preparing both tax returns needs a note on each payment. The hours go on classifying each one, finding when it becomes taxable, tracing how the investment grant interacts with depreciation and checking what happens if part has to be repaid.

Frequently asked questions

Does azta hold the grant programme rules?
It holds the legislation and EU law. Programme rules and calls published by paying agencies may not be in the sources, so upload them with the decision.
Can it compute the depreciation?
No. It explains the rule and cites it. The calculation from the asset register stays with you.
Are the uploaded decisions kept private?
Yes. Client documents are never used for training on any plan, and they stay in the EU/EEA.
